Guided Walks around West Bay
Our friendly and knowledgeable guides are here on a Thursday morning to help you enjoy exploring West Bay from a different perspective with our selection of walks covering the history and nature of West Bay. All walks leave from West Discovery Centre, there is usually a £6 fee per person, but in October they will be free!

Bridport 24 Town of Culture are sponsoring our walks in October and our volunteer guides are trying something different with our walks this month! As we wander around West Bay on our river and historical walks we will be swapping images of old postcards for old paintings to illustrate the changes in West Bay over the past 200 years (see dates below). Don’t miss this chance to have a FREE guided walk and celebrate our local place and culture, every Thursday in October at 10:30 am from the Discovery Centre.

Guided Walk – West Bay’s Hidden History
Do you know which is West Bay’s oldest building, why did local people sail to Newfoundland and what was stored in the Custom’s House ? Find the answers on a walk exploring the fascinating history and stories linked to some of West Bay’s diverse architecture. This guided walk is approximately 1 mile and about 90 minutes in length, terrain is easy.
What one of our visitors told us: Last Thursday I joined a historic guided walk called Hidden West Bay. Extremely interesting, our volunteer guides Sarah & Jane were so friendly & knowledgeable & we all had a super walk all on the flat, so very enjoyable. Afterwards, we had a good look around the Discovery Centre again interesting exhibits in an old chapel building. Highly recommend. Karen Skipper June 2021
Guided Walk -West Bay’s River and Railway
Join us for a pleasant walk taking in the scenery together with a little wildlife and history out of West Bay along the old branch railway line path to the outskirts of Bridport and back via a route adjacent to the river. This guided walk is approximately 2 miles, and 90 minutes in length ,terrain is easy although there is one slope to the crest of the beach.
Guided Walk – West Bay to Eype
Join us to discover the fascinating landscape between West Bay and Eype. This guided walk is approximately 2.5 miles and about 2 hours in length. The walk includes some steep gradients. – good terrain but some steep gradients) – Discover the fascinating landscape between West Bay and Eype.
