What is West Bay like?

Once known as Bridport Harbour, West Bay is a charming seaside village nestled where the River Brit meets the Jurassic Coast. With its golden cliffs, working harbour, and relaxed coastal vibe, it’s the perfect blend of scenery and seaside charm.

What are the beaches like?

West Bay boasts three beaches — East Beach and two at West Beach — offering a mix of fine shingle and sand.

• East Beach: Sweeping golden cliffs and a lifeguard service in summer.
• West Beach: Family-friendly with gentler access to the sea, divided by a protective rock groyne.
• Dog-friendly area: The far western stretch allows dogs year-round. The other beaches have restrictions from 1st May -31st September

⚠️ Please take care near the cliffs, as rockfalls can occur. Always follow safety signage.

What is there to do in West Bay?

There’s plenty to enjoy in and around West Bay:

• Visit the award-winning West Bay Discovery Centre with hands-on exhibits, pop-up displays, and fascinating local stories.
• Wander around the harbour and admire the views.
• Head out on the water for a boat trip, paddleboarding, or fishing adventure.
• Treat yourself to local food and drink from beach kiosks, cafés, pubs, and restaurants.

What was filmed here?

West Bay is famous as the dramatic setting for ITV’s hit series Broadchurch, starring David Tennant and Olivia Colman. Follow our popular Broadchurch Trail to walk in the footsteps of the stars!
