Welcome to West Bay Discovery Centre! We have lots of information to help you plan your visit and know what to expect in advance.
Accessibility
We want all visitors of West Bay Discovery Centre to have a great time and we are committed to broadening access to all, enabling learning opportunities whatever your age or stage of life. The centre is accessible to buggy and wheelchair users and our displays use a variety of audio and visual mediums.
Our volunteers are always on hand to help and we welcome any feedback or queries- please contact us. We are delighted to have won a Silver in the Dorset Tourism Awards 2020 for Accessibility and Inclusivity. We are always working to improve further what we do and an audio guide is in development. This award recognises the progress we have already made in this area.

Guide and Assistance dogs are always welcome
Registered Disability Support Dogs, registered Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, registered Guide Dogs for the Blind, registered Disability Assistance Dogs, registered Medical Assistance Dogs and registered Seizure Alert Dogs are all welcome.
Non assistance dogs
In peak season there may be occasions when we are unable to allow our non assistance four legged friends into the building due to limited space. Outside this period we are dog-friendly.

Nearest Toilet facilities
There are public toilets located behind the Centre which include a disabled toilet and baby changing facilities.
Refreshments in West Bay
West Bay has an amazing choice of food and drink outlets to suit all pockets and tastes and special diets including vegan, vegetarian and gluten free. On the Esplanade are two picnic benches with wheelchair access.
Access to the beach
On West Bay Beach special matting was installed in August 2022 to provide wheelchair and buggy access to the beach. The path is made of specially made plastic and aluminum and will be made available during the summer season allowing the beach for the first time to be accessible to all.
West Bay Beach Wheelchair Scheme
The West Bay Beach Wheelchair scheme was established in March 2023, four beach wheelchairs are available for hire from April- October. The wheelchairs extend beach access to people of all ages and abilities, and are free to hire in season for further details and how to book see here.
West Bay Play Area Situated next to the main car park in West Bay is an award-winning play area that has been designed to enable every one of all abilities and ages to play together.

Public Transport in and around Bridport
The main operator of bus services in the area is First Wessex their buses are low floor and accessible buses that can accomodate a wheelchair.
