Work Experience Day at West Bay Discovery Centre
We recently had work experience student holiday visitor Bradley come to help us at the Discovery Centre. It was lovely to have him and we wish him all the best for his exams. Here is what he had to say about his day with us!
“Hi there, my name is Bradley Mcdowall and I’m currently a sixth form student. I chose to volunteer at the West Bay Discovery Centre because I was on holiday in the area and was hoping to gain some experience working in a museum. I did this because I hope to one day be a palaeontologist and found that the Discovery Centre was holding an exhibition on palaeontology. I felt like this would give me a great opportunity to get to know what it’s like working in a museum and how it feels to help teach people about history.
When I arrived at the Discovery Centre, I was very politely greeted and for the rest of the day, I was treated very well and like I was a proper part of the team. Overall the Centre was very nice to be at and I very much enjoyed walking around the place, reading and learning about the area. The buried in time exhibition was very interesting and gave a very good insight into the fossils and geology of the Dorset coast. I felt that the Discovery Centre was laid out very nicely and had a very friendly atmosphere. I hope that one day soon I will be able to help out again as I greatly enjoyed my time there and I would encourage anyone else who is interested in local history to donate any time they have as it truly is a great place.”
